AIM AIR Caravan Gross Wt & STOL Kit project – This project aims to outfit our three Cessna Caravans with special modification kits. The kits will allow the aircraft to land at their maximum takeoff weight. Right now we are limited to a maximum landing weight of 8,500 pounds, which often affects the takeoff weight if the flight is short and the fuel load is light. For the people who rely on AIM AIR and use the Caravans, the limitation is one we are often running up against, causing us to leave behind precious cargo, or limiting the passenger load. The modification kits will give us the abilty to carry humdreds of pounds more on some flights.
The kit also makes a provision for an operator to use a 30-degree flap setting for takeoff which helps the takeoff performance in certain situations, reducing the ground-roll and distamce needed to clear an obstacle at the end of an airstrip. In the environment in which we operate, every bit of extra performance helps.
The kits are $17,000 each. Two kits have already been purchased. One more is needed.
